Absolute Contraindications (CANNOT perform peel.)
- Active cold sores (herpes simplex outbreak)
- Open wounds, cuts, or skin infections (bacterial, fungal, viral)
- Active dermatitis or eczema flare on the treatment area
- Sunburn
- Accutane within the past 6–12 months
- Allergy to peel ingredients (e.g., aspirin for salicylic acid, milk for lactic acid if severe.)
- Current cancer treatment: chemotherapy, radiation
Relative Contraindications (Can perform peel under certain conditions and timeframes.)
- Retinoid use within the past 5-7 days
- AHA/BHA or exfoliating product use within the past 48 hours
- Waxing or depilatories within 7 days
- Microdermabrasion (Wait 1 week)
- Microneedling (Wait 1–4 weeks depending on depth)
- Laser treatments (Wait 2+ weeks)
- Botox/fillers (Wait 1+ week)
- History of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) — especially in higher Fitzpatrick (higher melanin) skin types.
- Compromised barrier (dehydrated, sensitized, over-exfoliated skin)
- Severe acne
- Disorders causing impaired wound or skin healing
- Pregnancy
Certain medications may increase skin sensitivity to peels, especially those that thin the blood, compromise immunity, or increase photosensitivity. Please be sure to include these on your intake form when booking a peel with your facial.
